Eight Injured in Shooting at Martin Luther King Jr. Day Event in Fort Pierce, Florida

On Monday, eight people were injured in a shooting at Ilous Ellis Park in Fort Pierce, Florida during a Martin Luther King Jr. Day car show and family fun day. The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office said the shooting was the result of a disagreement between two parties, and four additional people were injured as they fled the scene. All of the victims were adults, with one in critical condition and the other seven sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. The Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the incident.

The Memphis Police Department and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have launched investigations into the actions of officers involved in a traffic stop arrest that resulted in the death of Tyre Nichols. The city has stated they will take “immediate and appropriate action” against the officers and the family is demanding the release of body camera and security video of the encounter. Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump is representing the family and has stated that “all of the available information tells us that this was the tragic and preventable death of a young man.”

Six Dead in Tragic Shooting in Goshen, California, Investigation Ongoing

On Monday morning, a shooting in Goshen, California left six people dead, including a 17-year-old mother and her 6-month-old baby. The Met Police has issued an apology for the breach of public trust and launched an internal investigation, while the victims have been praised for their bravery. Carrick is due to be sentenced on February 11th.
