Lynn Kelly, 64, of Porter, Maine, successfully defended her dog from a bear attack on Friday afternoon by punching the bear in the nose. The bear bit her right hand, puncturing her wrist, but she was able to fight it off and it quickly fled. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is urging people to take precautions when in bear country and to carry bear spray. Kelly is currently recovering from her injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

On Saturday, the fifth day of unrest following the fatal police shooting of a 17-year-old boy in Nanterre, France, hundreds of mourners attended the victim's burial. 45 police officers and gendarmes were injured overnight, but the government has continued to deploy police to prevent further violence. 719 people have been arrested nationwide.
President Donald Trump attempted to pressure Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey to overturn the election results in his state after the 2020 election, which Biden won by more than 10,000 votes. Former Vice President Mike Pence confirmed that he did call Ducey following the election, but denied that there was any pressure involved. Trump also attempted to pressure Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp to "find" votes, which is currently the subject of criminal investigations. The Washington Post report reveals the lengths Trump and his allies were willing to go to overturn the election results.
For the fourth night in a row, France has been rocked by violence and unrest sparked by the police killing of 17-year-old Nahel. 45,000 police officers have been deployed to try and quell the unrest, with 1,311 arrests made so far, but clashes between protesters and police have continued. Nahel's funeral is scheduled for Saturday, and the officer accused of the killing has been charged with voluntary homicide and is in custody.

U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss has stated that he has "ultimate authority" to bring charges against Hunter Biden in any jurisdiction, despite allegations from an IRS whistleblower that he was hamstrung by the Justice Department. This has sparked debate over whether congressional Republicans should start the impeachment process for President Joe Biden, with Nikki Haley in favor of it, while the Justice Department and IRS have yet to provide the requested documents.
At least 51 people have been killed in a fatal accident in Londiani, Kenya, according to police. Andrey Desmond, 30, of New Britain, Connecticut was arrested and charged with assault and other offences after allegedly attacking State Representative Maryam Khan outside of a Muslim prayer service in Hartford on Wednesday. He allegedly made lewd comments, attempted to kiss her, and then struck her and threw her to the ground. At his arraignment on Thursday, Desmond was ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bond and the Hartford Police Department released a statement saying that they are “committed to protecting all members of our community” and the incident is still under investigation.
