Four Survive Plunge Off Cliff in Tesla

Two adults and two children miraculously escaped serious injury after their Tesla plunged off a cliff along California’s Pacific Coast Highway and crashed on a rocky beach some 250 feet below.

According to Brian Pottenger, Battalion Chief with Cal Fire’s Coastside Fire Protection District, the car contained an adult male, an adult female, a 9-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl. Charging documents show that the other adult was a 41-year-old woman, and the two children were a girl, aged 7, and a boy, aged 4.

“We were very shocked” to discover that people in the car had survived the crash, said Pottenger. “What’s rare is that we do not get a lot of survivors – surviving this type of accident is very rare.”

All four survived the crash and were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. California officials have charged the driver of the Tesla with attempted murder and child abuse.

“We do respond to a lot of vehicles on that cliff,” Pottenger told CNN. He added that the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety and the need to be aware of the potential danger of driving on the highway.
