A rare albino buffalo in Bangladesh, nicknamed “Donald Trump” for its distinctive blond tuft of hair resembling the former U.S. president’s hairstyle, has been spared from ritual sacrifice during the Eid al-Adha festival. The 1,500-pound animal was originally purchased for the traditional sacrifice associated with the Muslim holiday but gained widespread attention after images of its golden hair went viral on social media.

The buffalo lives on a farm in Narayanganj, near the capital city Dhaka, where crowds have flocked to see the gentle animal. Its owner, farmer Ziauddin Mridha, said the nickname was given affectionately by his younger brother and that the buffalo requires careful upkeep, including frequent feeding and regular baths. “It is just a symbolic name, and we gave it out of affection and fondness,” Mridha told the Indian news agency ANI.

The Bangladesh government intervened late in the process to save the buffalo’s life. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered that the animal be spared from sacrifice, with the buyer refunded for the purchase. The buffalo will be relocated to the National Zoo in Dhaka, where it will join more than 2,000 other animals representing 191 species. A ministry official cited “security concerns” and the “unusual level of public interest” as reasons for the decision, according to Reuters.

This is not the first instance of animals being compared to Donald Trump due to their hair. A golden pheasant in China and a frogfish in England have previously drawn similar comparisons. The albino buffalo’s unique appearance and viral fame have now granted it a new lease on life, drawing visitors from across the region to witness the animal’s distinctive look firsthand.
