David Anthony Burke, known professionally as the singer and songwriter d4vd, has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The Los Angeles Police Department announced that Burke, 21, is being held without bail as detectives from the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division continue their investigation.
The remains of Rivas were discovered on September 8, 2025, in the trunk of a Tesla registered to Burke. The vehicle was impounded at a Hollywood tow yard after police responded to reports of a foul odor and flies attracted to the car. Inside the trunk, officers found a black cadaver bag containing a severely decomposed and dismembered head and torso, with additional dismembered body parts located in a second bag.
Rivas had been reported missing from Lake Elsinore, southeast of Los Angeles, over a year earlier. According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, she was last seen on April 5, 2024, after leaving her home at 9 p.m. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner noted that the remains were not intact and that the girl had been dead in the car for an extended period. At the time of discovery, she was wearing black leggings, a tube top, a yellow metal chain bracelet, and stud earrings.
Burke was on his d4vd Withered 2025 World Tour when the identity of the deceased was released. He canceled his Seattle show the same day Rivas was identified and subsequently canceled the remainder of his U.S. tour. A spokesperson for Burke stated he was aware of the situation and was fully cooperating with authorities.
The cause and manner of Rivas’s death have not been publicly disclosed due to a security hold requested by police, and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is set to review the case. The grand jury investigation named Burke as the target, and detectives will present formal charges to the district attorney’s office.
An attorney for Burke did not respond to requests for comment. The LAPD confirmed that Burke remains in custody without bail as the investigation continues.
