Media mogul Oprah Winfrey has revealed that she has recently turned to a weight-loss medication after years of struggling with her weight. In an exclusive interview with People magazine, Winfrey said that the medication has been a “gift” and a “relief” for her.

“The fact that there’s a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for,” she said.

Winfrey recalled the public ridicule she endured for decades about her size and how she internalized the criticism. She mentioned a particularly harsh instance where a magazine cover dubbed her “Dumpy, Frumpy and Downright Lumpy.”

“I didn’t feel angry,” she told People. “I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself.”

Winfrey said she uses the medication “as a tool” to manage her weight as she sheds pounds. She also mentioned that she has adopted a holistic approach to her health, which has helped her to slim down.

“I now use it as I feel I need it, as a tool to manage not yo-yoing,” she said.

Winfrey’s weight fluctuation has been well documented, but things began to improve for her health during her recent journey. She hopes that her story will help others to overcome their own struggles with weight and body image.
