Key takeaways:

  • FBI officials confirmed that an unclassified FBI-generated record is being used in an ongoing investigation.
  • The FBI has not determined the allegation against Joe Biden to be untrue, but has not found it to be credible either.
  • The FBI’s confirmation has raised questions about the validity of the allegation, and it is unclear at this time whether it is true or not.

Today, FBI officials confirmed that an unclassified FBI-generated record is being used in an ongoing investigation. This confirmation came after the FBI briefed House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) and ranking member Jamie Raskin, D-Md., on Capitol Hill for more than an hour Monday. The briefing was about an unverified tip the bureau received in 2020 that Joe Biden had been involved in a bribery scheme when he was vice president.

Comer told reporters outside the secure briefing site that the “FBI again refused to hand over the unclassified record to the custody” of the committee. He also declared that the FBI had not determined the allegation to be untrue, though he didn’t say it had found the tip credible, either.

Republicans have said the source of the allegation is highly credible while admitting they don’t know whether it’s true or not. Comer and Raskin were offered the chance to review a document that purportedly describes the allegation that Joe Biden accepted a bribe as vice president.

The FBI’s confirmation that the unclassified record is being used in an ongoing investigation has raised questions about the validity of the allegation. It is unclear at this time whether the allegation is true or not, and the FBI has not made any further comments on the matter.
