Active Shooter Situation in Lewiston, Maine: Residents Ordered to Shelter in Place

Residents of Lewiston, Maine were ordered to shelter in place Wednesday night due to two active shooter events reported by law enforcement agencies. The Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office is asking people to stay inside their homes with the doors locked while they investigate the suspect at large. The Maine State Police are requesting anyone with information to contact them and remain vigilant.

Maine Man Accused of Killing Four People and Randomly Shooting Three Others on Highway

Joseph Eaton, 34, was released from prison four days before he allegedly killed four people in a home and randomly shot three others on a busy highway. The Maine State Police are investigating the incident and have charged Eaton with four counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder. Eaton had been sentenced in March 2021 for a probation violation and was released from the Maine Correctional Center in Windham on April 14.
