Two Black Quarterbacks Set to Make History in Super Bowl LVII, as Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts Battle for the Lombardi Trophy

Two Black quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles, will make history when they face off in Super Bowl LVII on February 12th. This will be the first time in Super Bowl history that two Black quarterbacks will be starting for each side. Doug Williams was the first Black quarterback to start and win the Super Bowl in 1988, while Russell Wilson was the second in 2013 and Mahomes was the third in 2020. If the Eagles win, Hurts would become the fourth Black quarterback to win a Super Bowl.

Chiefs Secure Super Bowl LVII Berth with Thrilling 23-20 Victory Over Bengals in AFC Championship Game

The Kansas City Chiefs are headed to Super Bowl LVII after a thrilling 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game. The game-winning kick was set up by a 15-yard penalty on the Bengals' Joseph Ossai for shoving Patrick Mahomes after he was out of bounds. Mahomes, who suffered a high ankle sprain last week, was able to lead the team to a victory and will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, the first matchup of Black starting quarterbacks in the Super Bowl.

Kansas Man Convicted of Threatening U.S. Rep. Jake LaTurner

Chase Neill, 32, of Lawrence, Kansas, was found guilty of threatening U.S. Rep. Jake LaTurner after leaving a death threat in a voicemail in LaTurner's Topeka office. Neill, who acted as his own attorney, admitted in court that he had threatened to kill the congressman, claiming he was a messenger from God. He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 14 and faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
