A peaceful protest in downtown Atlanta on Saturday evening turned violent after a group of protesters began committing illegal acts, such as breaking windows, attacking police cruisers, and setting a police cruiser on fire. The protest was in response to a proposed police training facility and the fatal police shooting of an environmental activist earlier in the week. The Atlanta Police Department is asking for anyone with information about the incident to come forward and is encouraging peaceful protests.

A Georgia state trooper was shot and wounded near the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, a controversial future law enforcement training site, during a clearing operation conducted by the GBI and other law enforcement agencies. An individual allegedly shot at law enforcement without warning, and was killed by police return fire. The wounded trooper was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and the proposed $90 million center is on hold pending the outcome of the investigation.
