Last week, a newborn baby was safely surrendered in a baby box at a fire station in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the first such instance since the state passed a law allowing anonymous surrendering of newborns. The baby box program is designed to provide a safe and anonymous way for parents to surrender their newborns, and is currently in operation in several states. Fire department staff were able to tend to the child in less than 90 seconds.
