Tennessee State Rep. Gloria Johnson Announces Candidacy for U.S. Senate, Vows to Fight for Working Families

Tennessee state Rep. Gloria Johnson has announced her candidacy for U.S. Senate against incumbent Republican Marsha Blackburn. Johnson, a gun safety advocate and survivor of a 2008 school shooting, is running to ensure Tennesseans have a voice in the national conversation on gun control. If elected, Johnson would be the first female Senator elected by Tennessee voters.

Kansas Man Arrested and Charged with Making Threats Against Nashville Pride Event

Joshua Hensley, 25, of Kansas, has been arrested and charged with two counts of transmitting an interstate threat after allegedly commenting on a Facebook post for Nashville Pride with a slur and a threat to commit a mass shooting at the June event. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee has stated that they will not tolerate hate-based threats of violence, and Hensley is currently being held in federal custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 10. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee Set to Sign Bill Restricting Drag Performances in Public and in Front of Children

Tennessee lawmakers passed a bill on Thursday that would restrict drag performances in public or in front of children. The bill has been met with criticism from the LGBT community, who argue that it is an attempt to limit their freedom of expression. Supporters of the bill argue that it is necessary to protect children from inappropriate content.
