Former President Donald Trump was arrested on Thursday in Fulton County, Georgia, on 13 felony counts related to an alleged scheme to overturn the 2020 presidential election. He was booked and had his mug shot taken at the Fulton County jail, and is the latest of 18 co-defendants indicted by the Fulton County District Attorney's office. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and has vowed to fight the charges, the outcome of which remains to be seen.
House Republicans passed a bill on the debt limit and spending cuts on Wednesday, but talks with the Biden administration are still ongoing and there are many areas of disagreement. The White House has proposed a plan to raise the debt limit and suspend it until the end of July, as well as a $1.7 trillion infrastructure package, both of which have been rejected by the GOP. The deadline for raising the debt limit is August 2nd, and if no agreement is reached, the US could default on its debt for the first time in history.
The House select committee investigating the January 6th Capitol attack released transcripts of interviews with Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, former White House deputy chief of staff Tony Ornato, and Robert Sinners, who worked on the Trump campaign’s Election Day operations in Georgia in 2020. Thomas told the committee that her text message expressing disgust with then-Vice President Mike Pence was not related to his refusal to stop the congressional certification of Joe Biden’s win, but rather to her frustration with him not talking up election fraud claims. Sinners told investigators his “intent was never to be aligned with team crazy” and Ornato said he couldn’t recall details from January 6, citing “the fog of war” during the US Capitol attack. The committee also released emails showing an aide for former President Donald Trump reaching out to Jared Kushner about trademarking phrases related to the 2020 election.
