Ukrainians celebrated Christmas on December 25th for the first time this year, after the government changed the date from January 7th. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy released a Christmas message praising Ukraine’s “capabilities in negotiations with partners” and referring to the country’s claim to have destroyed three Russian fighter planes on Friday. Ukrainians celebrated with church services, prayer, and a Christmas dinner, and are hopeful that the new year will bring further progress in the fight for freedom.

Ukraine and Russia Engage in Escalating Conflict as Russian Forces Launch Drone Barrage on Ukrainian Seaport

On Sunday, Russian forces launched a 3 ½ hour drone barrage on the Reni seaport in the Odesa region of Ukraine, resulting in two people being hospitalized. This attack occurred the day before Russian President Vladimir Putin was scheduled to meet with his Turkish counterpart to discuss the resumption of food shipments from Ukraine. Ukraine has been using cluster munitions on the front lines in the conflict with Russia, which has been condemned by the international community, urging both sides to come to a peaceful resolution.
