Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rejected suggestions that the war with Russia has reached a stalemate, and has pleaded for the U.S. to provide more weapons. Opposition in Congress to providing more weapons appears to be rising, and Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S. Oksana Markarova has said that the Ukrainian government is running very short of U.S.-provided aid. The war in the Middle East is also diverting some attention from the war in Ukraine, making the situation increasingly dire.

President Joe Biden will be joined by 26 special guests at his first State of the Union address, including Rock star Bono, a 26-year-old who disarmed a gunman in California, and Holocaust survivor Ruth Cohen. The guests represent issues the administration has confronted in the past year and will serve as a reminder of the administration’s accomplishments and the issues that still need to be addressed. Vice President Kamala Harris has invited Ruth Cohen to be her guest.
