Viola Davis Becomes Third Black Woman to Achieve Grand Slam of Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards

Viola Davis has become the third Black woman in history to achieve the grand slam of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award. On Sunday, she won her first Grammy for her performance of the audiobook for her memoir, “Finding Me,” and gave an emotional acceptance speech honoring her 6-year-old self. Davis is the fourth Black person to achieve the status, alongside Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend and Jennifer Hudson.

The Pointer Sisters formed in 1969 as a trio, and gained fame with their hit songs "I'm So Excited", "Slow Hand", "Neutron Dance" and "Jump (For My Love)". They won a Grammy in 1974 for their crossover hit "Fairytale", and were later inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994. After the addition of the oldest sister, Ruth, in 1972, the group continued recording until 1993. Anita, the last surviving member, passed away surrounded by her family.
