Former President Donald Trump has been indicted by a grand jury in Georgia on Monday, August 15th, 2023, following a two-and-a-half-year investigation by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' office. The indictment lists 41 total counts, including 13 against Trump, alleging a criminal enterprise with the goal of overturning the state's 2020 election result. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and is the first former president to be indicted while out of office, with the consequences of the indictment yet to be determined.
Former President Donald Trump's attorney, John Lauro, made the rounds on several news outlets to deny allegations that Trump knowingly spread lies about the 2020 election being stolen, arguing that Trump's attempts to pressure election officials were simply "free speech." Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) called Lauro's argument "deranged," and CNN's Dana Bash laughed incredulously at Lauro's suggestion that there was a "peaceful transfer of power" following the 2020 election. Lauro's media blitz was met with criticism from both sides of the aisle, with some arguing that Trump's actions were a violation of the Constitution and others feeling that Lauro's attempts to downplay the former president's actions were misguided.

Three Michigan electors have filed a lawsuit in Kent County Circuit Court against 16 Republicans for allegedly plotting to replace "duly elected and qualified" electors in an attempt to overturn Donald Trump's 2020 defeat in the state. The suit seeks to have a judge declare that the "fake elector scheme was illegal under Michigan law" and that the three plaintiffs are the "duly elected and qualified electors" for the state of Michigan. The lawsuit is a reminder of the importance of the electoral process and the need to ensure that all votes are counted and respected.
