Attorney General Merrick Garland has appointed U.S. Attorney David Weiss as special counsel to oversee the investigation into Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden's son. Weiss has been the top federal prosecutor in Delaware since 2018 and has been leading the investigation since 2019. The Justice Department said Weiss will be responsible for the “ongoing investigation" of Hunter Biden and any other matters that may arise from it. Weiss will remain on as U.S. attorney and continue leading the investigation, though the outcome and timeline remain unclear.
