This information was confirmed by three sources, including two law enforcement officials.

When questioned about the large sum of cash, a spokesperson for the DHS explained that Noem was in Washington with her entire family, including her children and grandchildren. The cash was intended for family dinners, activities, and Easter gifts. The incident occurred just before the White House Easter Egg Roll event, where Noem was approached by NBC News for comments regarding the theft. However, she declined to provide details, stating that she had not yet spoken with the U.S. Secret Service about the matter.

The U.S. Secret Service is actively investigating the incident. They are reviewing security camera footage from the restaurant and have identified a suspect. The suspect is described as a White male who was allegedly wearing a medical mask at the time of the theft. Despite the presence of Noem’s Secret Service detail, the suspect was not immediately detected during the incident.
